*to bow out on Monday
Outgoing Minister of State for Education, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike (CON) has formally informed heads of parastatals and directors of theFederal Ministry of Education of his intention to resign from the Federal Executive Council by Monday, October 20, 2014 to enable him pursue his political ambition.
The Minister who met with all the Heads of the Federal Ministry of Education parastatals and directors on Thursday in Abuja noted that his working relationship with them had been cordial and result-oriented.
The Minister, on Thursday, also met with the principals of the 104 Federal Unity Colleges where he charged them to ensure that they maintain the policy of merit in their admission process in response to the high demand for admissions into their schools.
He said working together with the chief executives and directors, they were able to make positive impact on the nation’s education sector by implementing the President’s Transformation Agenda.
Barrister Wike noted that key achievements were recorded in the areas of Almajiri Education, Girl-Child Education, electronic libraries, new Federal Universities and Polytechnics, regularization of the employment of temporary staff in the Federal Unity Colleges and the introduction of e-curriculum into the system.
He added that under his watch the Federal Ministry of Education also improved on the training of Mathematics and English Language teachers, enhanced mass literacy and ensured that infrastructural development fund of the public universities took a firm root.
The outgoing Minister charged the chief executives, staff and directors of the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure that the continue with the development strides already engrained in the system over the last three and half years of his sojourn in the Ministry.
All the chief executives of parastatals who spoke noted that the Minister of State for Education played a key role in revitalizing education through his tenacious supervision and strict approach to work. They include; The Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, Prof. Solarin, Director, National Mathematical Centre, Prof. Godswill Obioma of Nigeria Educational Research Development Council, Dr. Victoria Okojie, Registrar, Libraria Registration Council of Nigeria and Engr. Offor, Director, Technology and Science, Federal Ministry of Education.
Others who eulogised the Minister include; Barr. Chike Uwaezuoke, Director, Basic and Secondary Education and Ms Ifeoma Ajunwa, Director, Federal Scholarship Board. The Principal, Federal Government Girls College, Owerri, Mrs Chioma Nwosu spoke on behalf of the principals of the Federal Unity Colleges.
