President Goodluck Jonathan has described the late President-General of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU), and former military governor of Kebbi State, Maj. Gen. Patrick Aziza, as a man who lived a purposeful life and whose achievements were rare privileges of life.
Jonathan spoke during the funeral mass for Aziza at his country home, Adagbrassa Ugolo, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, Friday. He also commiserated with the Urhobo people on the death of their son.
Jonathan spoke through his representative at the event, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Steve Oru. He described Aziza as a true Nigerian who came, saw and conquered, and throughout his life he served the country at different levels, as a military officer and politician, meritoriously.
The President said, “Aziza’s death was a big loss to Nigeria. He spent his lifetime fighting hard to see that Urhobo and Nigeria moved forward. He excellently distinguished himself while serving in the nation’s military. The late Aziza’s achievements are rare privileges of life.”
Earlier, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan said the late UPU president’s contributions brought peace to the Niger Delta region during the militancy era.
“During the peak of the Niger Delta crisis, I convened a meeting with the retired Major General and his contribution to that meeting was of immense value to the current peace we are experiencing in the region,” Uduaghan said.
