President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday finally sent his list of ministerial nominees to the Senate.
States like Lagos and Kwara have two nominees each while several others have one.
Most of the old faces, including Rotimi Amaechi, Babatunde Fashola, Chris Ngige, Lai Mohammed, Ogbonnaya Onu, Geoffrey Onyeama, staged a return.
Promiment among new entrants inclde former Governors of Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states, Godswill Akpabio and Timpereye Silver,respectively. Others include Gbemisola Saraki, sister to the immediate past Senate.President, Bukola Saraki; Sppkesman of Buhari Campaign Organisation Festus keyamo.
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan announced the list of 43 nominees on Tuesday.
Part of those mentioned include Godswill Akpabio (Akwa-Ibom) Chris Ngige (Anambra), Festus Keyamo (Delta) and Lai Mohammed (Kwara). Others include Gbemisola Saraki (Kwara), Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Tayo Alasoadura (Ondo), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), among others.
The National Assembly, which was preparing for a two-month recess, is expected to screen the nominees.
Lawan disclosed that the screening will commence on Wednesday morning. The Senate President disclosed that “all legislative activities will take back stage for this National assignment.”
It has taken the President 55 days to send the list since his inauguration. Furthermore, the list has more of former senators and governors.
It was gathered that the list was sent to the Senate on Monday evening via executive communication.
The submission of the list of nominees by the President will go a long way in assuaging concerns in many quarters. There had been growing apprehension that the economy is currently at a standstill following the prolonged absence of ministers
