The Senate minority leader, Sen. George Akume, has urged the people of Nasarawa State to re-elect Governor Umaru Tanko Al -Makura in 2015 elections on the premise of the transformation he has brought to the state.
Sen. Akume made the appeal yesterday in Lafia at the Nasarawa South senatorial zone rally organised by party stakeholders in the zone calling on Governor Al-Makura to re-contest governorship position of the state come 2015.
He said Al-Makura’s achievement in the education sector is uncommon since the days of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, and evidently clear to any passerby traversing the length and breath of the state.
“Al-Makura has performed so well in all sectors of the state, you can never fail to appreciate the quality of work he has done in the education sub-sector. For the first time we see primary schools being constructed like university structures”.
“Al-Makura has done well in transforming Nasarawa State and he must be re-elected in 2015 so that he can continue with his good works,” he continued.
The former governor of Benue State also appealed to his kinsmen in the senatorial zone to give Al-Makura their support despite the recent security challenges which displaced a good number of them from their ancestral homes.
In his speech, the premier civilian governor of the state, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, called on the electorates to take part in the forthcoming distribution of permanent voters’ card and registration of voters to enable them vote leaders of their choice in the impending general elections.
Sen. Adamu cautioned voters to be vigilant and guard against being deceived into voting parties and candidates that would return the state to its dark days of underdevelopment.
