The All Progressives Congress has said that its National Working Committee unanimously agreed to to jettison the recommendations of its Appeal Committee on the September 3 conduct of governorship primary elections in Ondo state after discovering discrepancies in their report
Two of the three-member Helen Bendega-led committee had called for the cancellation of the election result citing several misconducts during the primary.
But the NWC of the party had met on Thursday and forwarded the name of the winner of the exercise, Rotimi Akeredolu to the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC as its candidate in the forth coming gubernatorial elections.
The party rebutted reports that the national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, over-ruled the NWC and unilaterally forwarded Akeredolu’s name to INEC.
According to the party, it unanimously arrived at the decision having identified some fundamental flaws in the report of the appeal committee.
“For the records, the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) decision to reject the 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report was taken on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in executive session after careful and exhaustive deliberation. The minutes and rejection was confirmed by the NWC on Thursday, September 22, 2016.
