The Mass Progressive Movement, a coalition of stakeholders that last weekend purchased nomination form for Adamawa State governor; Bala Ngilari, to contest in the 2015 governorship election said they took the decision because some interest groups within the party were trying to prevent Ngilari from contesting.
Spokesman of the movement, Prince Medan Fwa, who is also a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain told Sunday Trust in an interview that they believed Ngilari was the best qualified person to contest the 2015 Adamawa governorship election.
“Those who purchased form for Ngilari did so in representative capacity, representing an amalgam or coalition of many interest groups with one common goal. They moved, mobilized and purchased form for him to contest 2015 governorship election. When it is found out that these various individual interest groups have one similar purpose, they decided to come together to purchase the form. That is what brought us here in Abuja as representatives of the various interest groups.
“One particular reason that prompts us into this action is the fact that he was told he would not contest for the governorship but to merely hold brief for the remaining period of his former boss that was impeached. But having found out that everyone has a right to be what he wants to be and having found out that Bala is an embodiment of good virtues, we decided to purchase the form for him because he has the right to contest”, he said.
He denied allegations that Ngilari was still under the influence of the impeached Governor Nyako, saying: “Bala is an independent-minded person. He is someone with a moderating attitude that flows with any type of character. He can dine even with his enemy and mix freely with any political divide. The objective that is always in his mind is to bring about peace and development. Therefore, to insinuate that he is under the influence of Nyako is highly fallacious because he is an independent-minded person.”
