The People’s Democratic has cleared Governor Godwin Obaseki to participate its forthcoming the Edo State governorship primary election.
Obaseki defected to PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday, following his melodramatic disqualification from running for the second term under the platform of APC.
Obaseki believed and said so clearly that his disqualification was teleguided by former governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Obaseki and Oshiomhole have been locked up in a battle for the soul of the political scheme of Edo State.
According to insiders, Oshiomhole helped Obaseki to the exalted political office but their relationship soured when the incumbent rebuffed his attempts to dictate the happenings in the state.
A screening panel headed by Hon. Kingsley Chinda gave Obaseki all clear ahead of the PDP primary election scheduled for June 25.
Obaseki told reporters after the screening that he had presented to the panel all his credentials, from secondary school to the National Youth Service Corps.
A member of the screening committee who did not want to be attributed said that the committee had thoroughly examined the documents presented by the governor and found to meet all the requirements as stipulated in the Constitution and the electoral act.
Three other governorship aspirants Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Gideon Ikhine, and Mr Kenneth Imansuangbon, were also screened and okayed for the governorship primary. No aspirant was disqualified.
The party still went ahead to step up an appeal panel to hear and decide on complaints from the contestants.
Those named into the appeal committee are Senator James Manager, who will serve as Chairman, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, Chief Austin Umahi, Bro. Emmanuel Ogidi, Chief G.T. Kataps, Theophilus Daka Shan, Senator Ibrahim Kazaure, Senator Stella Oduah, Senator Zainab Kure, Lauretia Mallam, Alhaju Umar Babangida, Bitrus Tanko, and Ajibola Muraina, who will be the secretary
The appeal session is scheduled for 12noon, Monday June 22 at the NWC Hall, Wadata Plaza.
