Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo has declared that leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State have lined up in support of Barrister Nyesom Wike, as their preferred governorship aspirant because of his capacity to deliver on development programmes and enhancement of community integration.
Speaking during the ‘Meet the PDP Delegates Tour’ of Barrister Wike to Akuku Toru Local Government on Tuesday, Dr Danagogo stated that Barrister Wike rescued the Rivers PDP from planned collapse by outgoing Governor Amaechi and re-established the party in the state, making it the party to beat in the forthcoming elections.
He said that such political engineering skills of Barrister Wike were needed by the PDP in the state for President Jonathan to be re-elected, the governorship seat re-claimed and the PDP winning the National and State Assembly elections.
Danagogo pointedly declared: “Nobody who has not been part of the struggle to rebuild PDP in Rivers State will jump into the PDP and take the governorship ticket. We as leaders and members of the PDP have endorsed Barrister Wike to lead the party to victory in all forthcoming elections.
“Nobody will cook soup and allow another person to share the soup. Wike has led us to cook the PDP soup and he will lead us into the 2015 election. Wike loves Kalabari people. He personally facilitated my appointment into the Federal Executive Council.”
The Sports Minister said that the Kalabari people are solidly behind President Jonathan and Barrister Wike in the 2015 elections.
Responding, Rivers State Governorship Aspirant, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said that he would not disappoint the Kalabari people when he emerges as Governor of Rivers State, pointing out that the project to defeat the non-performing APC government in Rivers State was for all indigenes and residents of the state.
He said no amount of blackmail by the APC would make the opposition party win in Rivers State and Nigeria as Nigerians now know that the party thrives only on propaganda with no serious achievements on ground.
Wike said that the APC has resorted to lies because of the fading chances of the party, pointing out that things will get worse for the opposition party.
He accused the outgoing administration of the state of acquiring series of loans to finance their plot to buy permanent voters cards from Rivers people. He advised the people not to be swayed by the sharing of money for cards by the outgoing administration.
Also speaking, Kalabari leader and former chairman United Bank for Africa, Chief Ferdinand Anabaraba, said that the decision to support Wike was taken because of the need to develop Rivers State.
Former Rivers State Works Commissioner, Alabo David Briggs and Chief Precious Elekima assured Barrister Wike that all Akuku Toru PDP delegates would cast their votes for him during the PDP Primary on December 8.
Earlier, Chairman, Akuku Toru PDP, Mr Eree Emmanuel stated that the PDP members in the area endorsed Wike for the party’s ticket because he is bridge builder and committed to the development of the entire state.
The meet the PDP Delegates tour to the area also attracted thousands of party faithful from across the wards of the LGA.
