Niger PDP To Field 15 Female Candidates For 2015

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger said that 15 female aspirants shown interest to contest for various political offices in 2015 in the state.
Alhaji Hassan Shaba, Publicity Secretary of the chapter, announced this on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna.
He said that the aspirants would be given equal opportunity like their male counterparts, adding that the party was ready to support and guide them.
‘’As part of the party’s philosophy, female aspirants will be supported to contest with their male counterparts. We will not allow anything to hinder their vision of positive contribution.
‘’The state sees the number as an encouragement and showed the policy of the PDP to have balanced representation for the people,’’ he said.
NAN reports that the positions contested by the female aspirants included the Senate, House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly.
Hajiya Zainab Kure, a serving Senator, would seek re-election while four are going for the House of Representatives and 10 are going for the state House of Assembly.
Shaba stressed that the party would offer competitive and credible candidates, adding that women were part of the category to be presented in 2015.
Eight candidates are contesting for the gubernatorial seat; five for Senate; 36 for House of Representatives and 90 for the state House of Assembly. (NAN)
