Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Southern Borno District at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, has expressed worries that government is paying more attention to the 2015 elections than the plight of internally displaced persons (IDPs), who are languishing in various camps in the North-East region of the country.
This is even as the senator said that when the Senate resumes this week, he would propose that the Electoral Act should make provision for IDPs to vote in the camps when the time comes, since the Boko Haram group has forced them out of their homes.
According to Ndume, since the Electoral Act is proposing to make provision for Nigerians in the Diaspora to vote during elections in the country, the same provision should be made for IDPs, wherever they find themselves.
He further expressed sadness that Federal Government has been unable to put an end to the insurgency in Nigeria, particularly in the North-East region of the country.
Ndume called on the Nigerian government to seek the assistance of the Economic Community of West African States in tackling the menace of terrorism, since it has failed in its responsibility of providing security and welfare for the people.
