Diocese of Omu-Aran of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in Kwara State has called on the federal and state governments not to make the international community lose confidence in the nation by their inability to check corruption.
The diocese lamented the high level of corruption in the country, warning that if the trend was not checked, it would “deprive us of realising our potentials as a great nation and make people lose confidence in us as a people.”
In a communique issued at the end of its Second Session of the Second Synod, with the theme: “The Heart: Centre of Issues of Life”, signed by the Diocesan Bishop, Philip Adeyemo and Chairman Communique Committee, Joseph Bamigboye, the diocese called on government at all levels and other stakeholders to discourage corrupt practices in the country.
It said the country needs godly people to move it forward and advised that as Nigerians prepare for the 2015 general elections, the politicians and the electorate should “purge their hearts of wickedness and imbibe love, integrity and the fear of God to be able to act rightly.”
