A security meeting has been held in Abuja with the botched rerun elections in Rivers State in view.
According to a report by an online news portal, daily Post, the meeting was held at the instance of the Director General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura, with the Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris in attendance.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike was also in attendance at the meeting, as well as the former governor of the state and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.
The report cites an informed source as saying the APC governorship candidate for the 2015 general election, Dakuku Peterside, who is now the Director General of NIMASA, also attended the meeting.
The roll call of participants also included the APC candidate for Rivers South East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe, who later confirmed the development in a telephone interview with our correspondent.
Speaking further, Senator Magnus Abe expressed confidence in the resolutions adopted at the high profile security meeting, which he said was the first of its kind towards addressing the problem of insecurity in Rivers State.
“It was a very frank meeting. We spoke frankly to one another and we all agreed to cooperate with the security agencies to see that the violence and mayhem currently ongoing in Rivers state is brought under control.
“We all agreed to work together and cooperate with one another and with the Governor and the security agencies to see that elections are peaceful,” Abe said.
