Manchester United have completed their third signing of the summer, with 27-year-old Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan arriving from Borussia Dortmund. We’re yet to hear any official word from United, though BVB have confirmed the completion of the transfer in a statement on their website.
The statement includes a quote from the club’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, who, according to Mr. G. Translate, describes United’s offer as “tremendous,” and explains the club’s decision to sell as partly based on the fact Mkhitaryan would have been able to walk away from the Westfalenstadion for nothing at the end of next season.
Mkhitaryan’s signing follows hot on the heels of Zlatan Ibrahimović’s, with young centre-back Eric Bailly having earlier become José Mourinho’s first signing as United manager. So far business has been impressively swift, and it remains to be seen if there are any other signings in the pipeline. We’ll let you know when we finally get to see Mkhitaryan holding the red shirt.
