Man United hold talks with Jose Mourinho: He believes he will replace Louis van Gaal
JOSE MOURINHO is growing increasingly confident he will get the Manchester United job.
It’s understood there has been informal talks between Mourinho and United chiefs as they plot their next move.
Louis van Gaal’s job is hanging by a thread after his troubled reign slumped to a new low with Saturday’s defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford.
Charlie Austin’s late strike condemned United to their eighth defeat of the season and left them five points adrift of the top four.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward looked on in horror as United fans abused Van Gaal as he marched to the dressing room at the final whistle.
Starsport understands Van Gaal will now meet with Woodward to discuss his potential exit from a contract that runs until 2017.
Former Chelsea boss Mourinho is said to believe that he WILL get the job within six months.
While the Mail claims Mourinho is “desperate” for the Old Trafford hot seat.
But reports over the weekend that he’d written a six-page love letter to United have been dismissed by his agent Jorge Mendes.
Mendes said the idea was “ridiculous”, adding in a brief statement: “It does not occur to anyone that a coach like Jose Mourinho can write letters to clubs offering their services.”
