Two operatives of Department of State Service have arrested for armed robbery.
They are part of five operatives who allegedly connived with five soldiers to rob a bureau de change (BDC) operator of N310 million in Abuja.
The DSS said it had recovered N66 million from the suspects, according to a statement on Saturday by one Tony Opuiyo.
According the statement, the suspects, Abdulrasheed Maigari and George Ibbi believed to be part of a 10-man robbery gang, comprising five military men and five DSS officials, allegedly undertook the operation on November 20.
Three of the DSS operatives are currently at large.
The service said that they had, on 20th November, 2015 robbed and shared the of the sum of three hundred and ten million naira (N310m) belonging to a Bureau De Change operator in Abuja.
“While three of the DSS staff are now at large, the military authorities have commenced a detailed investigation of five of its personnel involved in the crime,” the statement read in part.
The service further said that the Maigariled four of his colleagues while a military captain superintended the other group, going by the preliminary investigation carried out by the DSS.
“Abdulrasheed Ahmadu Maigari of the DSS conspired with four other colleagues of his namely Solomon Inusa, Peter Okoye, Patrick Ishaya and George Mwatapwa Ibbi, to carry out this reprehensible act. The five military personnel were led by one Capt. Hussein Ishaku Mshelia.
While the Service has arrested Maigari and Ibbi, Mshelia is equally being arrested by the army authorities. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those still at large.
“A total of sixty-six million four hundred and thirty seven thousand, four hundred and forty-five naira (N66,437,445.00) and six thousand two hundred dollars ($6,200) have so far been recovered, while efforts are being made to recover the remaining amount,” Opuiyo said.
