Reports indicate that Chelsea star and Nigerian international John Mikel Obi may be headed to Ligue 1 moneybags Paris Saint-Germain, as early as January barring any shifts in plans.
According to the reports, PSG have started testing the waters with regards to the signing him in the January transfer window.
Chelsea are eyeing up a swoop for PSG’s defensive midfielder Blaise Matuidi when the market reopens and it has now come to light that Mikel could be used as make-weight in the deal taking the France star to Stamford Bridge, reports Vanguard.
PSG are aware that Matuidi is also being tracked by several European powerhouses apart from Chelsea and have lined up Mikel as his replacement should he depart the Parc des Princes in the near future, and if that is the case the Nigeria international will be purchased outright.
The 28 year-old and his Russian fiancee Olga Diyachenko recently welcomed their twins into the world and this contributed to his decision to stay put in London in the first half of this season despite interest from outside the Premier League.
Fenerbahce and Besiktas have not locked up Mikel’s case in the drawer and it is understood that he will give the Istanbul clubs a definite answer in December.
Just like the 2014-15 campaign, the Super Eagles star has not featured much for Chelsea in the young season, with only 61 minutes of game time in the top flight after seven rounds.
