When it rains it pours, and Stamford Bridge is seemingly just above water level when it comes to controversy.
On the same day Diego Costa found himself the recipient of a three-game suspensions for his actions against Arsenal — a retroactive red card if you will — the club finds itself down a doctor.
Eva Carneiro, the doctor who found herself a storyline after Jose Mourinho called her out for having the audacity to tend to an injured player, has quit Chelsea. The club won’t comment on the matter, but reports say the Football Association is looking into claims that Mourinho used sexist and/or defamatory language toward her.
Carneiro had her role downgraded after Mourinho said his medical staff were “naive” for treating Eden Hazard during the 2-2 draw with Swanseaon 8 August.
Chelsea asked Carneiro, 42, to return to work, but she has decided not to and is now considering her legal position.
This is certainly one case where Mourinho crossed many lines, and it wasn’t too long ago Cobham was a zoo for his prematch press conference. Friday should be a similar situation.
It would take a lot for a reigning champion manager to see his job become as unstable as Mourinho’s, but such is the life of “The Special One”. Could one of the best managers and tacticians in the world be sliding toward another professional exit? Unlikely, but certainly possible.
