The Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi, has been relieved of his post.
Akpobolokemi’s sack was announced on Thursday by Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity.
No reason was offered by the administration for the decision which Adesina said took immediate effect.
Akpobolokemi would hand over the management of NIMASA and all government property in his possession to the most senior officer in the agency who will remain in charge until a new Director-General is appointed, Adesina announced.
In in a related development, the president has also approved the dissolution of the Governing Boards of all federal parastatals, agencies and institutions.
The dissolution also takes effect immediately, Adesina said.
“Until the boards are reconstituted, Chief Executive Officers of the affected parastatals, agencies and institutions are to refer all matters requiring the attention of their boards to the President through the Permanent Secretaries of their supervising ministries,” he announced.
However he clarified that the dissolution does not affect Federal Executive Bodies listed in the 1999 Constitution.
But “the dissolution order covers administrative or technical committees and other similar organs established by the now dissolved boards,” he added.
