Chelsea are on the verge of selling Petr Cech to Arsenal, and will soon be in the market for a new backup to Thibaut Courtois. Manager Jose Mourinho is rumored to be in favor of targeting Asmir Begovic from Stoke City, and on Tuesday, The Telegraph are reporting that the Premier League side is readying themselves for an approach from the Blues. The paper suggests that they’d like to add Victor Moses permanently, and that a player swap is something they’d suggest should Chelsea come calling.
This could make sense for both clubs, as if Begovic is interested in moving on, there’s little chance that Stoke could prevent him from doing just that. Moses, on the other hand, seems to have no future at Chelsea, having rejected the chance to return in January, instead remaining with the Potters until the end of the season.
The big holdup here would seem to be the ability to convince Begovic to join Chelsea in the prime of his career, where he’d have very little chance of displacing Courtois. Begovic has been rumored to have interest in a Chelsea switch in the past, though at that time, Courtois was not yet established, and Cech was looking like a player in decline.
