The Department of State Services On Monday debunked reports that his agency had arrested Mr Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The DSS spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanaya, in a statement following enquiries over the alleged arrest, said that the DSS did no such arrest.
His at statement titled: MAGU, NOT ARRESTED BY DSS, reads:
“The Department of State Services (DSS) wishes to inform the public that it did not arrest Ibrahim MAGU, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as has been reported by sections of the media.
“The Service, has since, today, 6th July, 2020, been inundated with enquiries over the alleged arrest.”
Presidency sources indicated however that Magu was not arrested but invited before a panel probing the activities of the agency, which was said to be sitting at the Banquet Hall wing of the Presidential Villa.
Magu was stopped in traffic while moving out of the Wuse II Annex of the EFCC in Abuja and the invitation was extended to him, the sources further revealed.
Other reports indicated that the EFC C boss on his way to the Force Headquarters, when the invitation was extended to him. Metro Watch reports that his pleads with an officer from FCID who met with him to all him honour the earlier scheduled appointment was refused, as the officer insisted that the invitation by the panel was more important.
Magu arrived at the panel’s sitting venue about 1.35 pm and was ushered into the wing where he was later joined by his lawyer, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, the report added.
Metro Watch further quoted a unnamed source as saying, “Both Magu and Jacobs are now in an office in the Banquet Wing of the Vila.
“He has not been arrested by any of the security agencies. We are awaiting further development. “
