Respite has finally come to Gov. Godwin Obaseki as all aspirants for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary in Edo State have agreed to settle out of court.
Even Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who took the matter to court, has agreed to tow the peace line with other aspirants.
A Federal High court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State had on Tuesday granted an order restraining the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki from participating in the Peoples Democratic Party governirship primary election.
The governor joined the PDP last week and was granted waiver by the party’s leadership to participate in the governorship primary scheduled to hold June 25.
According to court papers that surfaced overnight, ine of the party’s aspirants, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihiama had approached the court asking for the Governor, who just joined the PDP from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to be stopped from participating in the primaries.
The request of aspirant was granted by Justice Obile, who issued a restraining order against Obaseki’s participation
Ogbeide-Ihiama argued that since Obaseki was not part of the candidates screened by the PDP National Working Committee within then initially set deadline, he should not be allowed to participate in the primaries.
But on Wednesday, one of the counsels for the plaintiff, D. C. Denwigwe, (SAN) court informed the court that the parties in the suit have resolved their differences.
According Denwigwe, their clients have settled and have asked them their counsels to withdraw the case.
He therfore apologised to the court for the inconvenience and urged it to strike out the matter based on the oral prayers
