There have been reports of numerous deaths in Kano State suspected to be resulting from COVID-19 infections, even though the state’s government deny such connection.
Itodo reportedly intercepted the corpse at Enugu Ezike, the headquarters of the local government when the corpse was smuggled into the General Hospital’s mortuary and accepted by the mortician Tuesday night.
However, in the early hours of Wednesday, Chairman Itodo moved into the hospital with security agents and arrested the mortician who was immediately whisked away to quarantine centre to be tested for the deadly disease. The mortician would be quarantined while his contacts would be traced and also tested for the disease if the result turned positive.
In the case of the corpse intercepted at Nsukka Local Government, the Chairman, Hon Omeje, was said to have turned back the vehicle conveying it.
Southeast Post learnt that the corpse had come into Nsukka and was about being deposited at the Bishop Shannahan Hospital mortuary when the chairman was alerted.
He reportedly sent his security team who escorted the corpse back to the border before returning to Nsukka.
Source said the corpse which was meant for burial after the lockdown at Ibeagwa Aka was moved from Kano following threats of mass burial by the authorities..
