Five under-aged children were arraigned before an Abuja Grade One Area Court for stealing candies and other confectionaries at a church in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council.
The accused, two brothers and three others, all of Dutse Sokale were convicted for Joint Act and Theft, offenses contrary to Section 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Police Prosecutor, Kelechi Echendu, told the court that on October 12, one Mrs. Kemi Apata of Zone 7, Dutse Alhaji reported at the Dutse Alhaji Police Station of how the accused persons, on same date, conspired and broke her stock box where her provisions for sales were kept at Living Faith Church, Kubwa.
He said the accused persons stole one carton of fresh yoghurt, one carton of Ribena juice, one carton of Lucozade boost, Tomtom and other assorted sweets, all valued at N26,000.
When the charges were read to accused persons, they pleaded guilty and the judge Mohammed Marafa ordered that the parents pay the complainant her claims and warned them to take care of their under-aged wards. Similarly, two labourers were arraigned before the same court for assaulting a Pakistan national and other staffers of the company.
Alabi Omolono and Falade Ebenezer, both of Tunga Maje were accused of Joint Act, Assault and Mischief, offenses that contradict Sections 79, 265 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The same police prosecutor told the court that on October 11, one Udeh Sunday Kelvin of Nyanya, complained at the Dutse Alhaji Police Station of how the accused, on October 10, conspired and assaulted him at the site.
He said the accused repeated similar act the following day by assaulting other workers, including an expatriate from Pakistan at Spring Estate, damaging their working tools.
When the charges were read to accused, they pleaded not guilty and the judge, Mohammed Marafa, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reasonable sureties, one who must be a civil servant resident within the court jurisdiction
