THE police in Lagos State have begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing of a 32-year –old Information Technology expert on the Island of Lagos State.
The deceased, Adeniyi Asubiaro, was over the weekend reportedly shot dead by a police inspector, who was reportedly chasing hoodlums at a birthday party.
The incident created pandemonium along Oshodi Street as youths protested the killing. It almost turned violent, until some elders in the area and anti riot policemen intervened.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the deceased was late on Thursday night enjoying fresh air in front of his home at Oshodi Street, when the policeman allegedly shot him.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the late Adeniyi died at the Lagos Island General Hospital, where he was rushed to, after he was shot by the policeman identified simply as Skoda.
The mother of the deceased, Iyabo Ganzalo, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune stated that Adeniyi‘s friends told her that the policeman also went away with his phones.
The woman stated that she had last seen Adeniyi on the evening of the day of the killing when he was returning from the Parents Teachers Association meeting of his children’s school.
She narrated that she had just returned to her place of work, when she received a phone call to come to the General Hospital and that on getting there, she met Adeniyi’s corpse.
Eight months old pregnant wife of the deceased, Idayat Asubiaro, stated that she was in front of their house, when the melee that led to her husband’s death ensued.
Efforts to get the reaction of the image maker in charge of the state police command, Kenneth Nwosu, failed as calls to his mobile phone were not answered.
