Niger State Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu has called on people of the state to maintain the zoning formula.
Aliyu, who was in Kontagora yesterday to condole with the emir, over the death of his son, added that zoning has always been a stabilising factor in the state politics.
He urged the emir to rally his people to work towards ensuring that the next governor is from zone C.
He said those who want the zoning arrangement to be discarded do not mean well for the state. He urged other areas to support zone C.
“We must maintain the existing zoning arrangement in Niger State. There is rumour that some politicians are planning to present a governorship candidate to counter the existing arrangement. We must ensure that, that does not happen,” he said.
He appealed to the people of Kontagora and Borgu emirate councils, which are located in the zone billed to produce the next governor to work together.
He said based on the arrangement, Kontagora is to produce the next governor while Borgu will produce the next senator.
