About 15 persons were feared killed while many were injured after a building located in the premises of the Synagogue Church, Ikotun in Lagos, collapsed on Friday.
Information about casualty figures remained uncertain as at the time of writing this report, but it was initially confirmed that no fewer than 15 people may have died in the unfortunate incident.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 12 noon, while the total number of people present in the building was put at about 70. They included foreigners, church members and canteen workers.
The six-storey building ,which collapsed due to yet-to-be known reasons, according to reports, served as a guest house for people travelling from far and it also accommodated foreign visitors of the Synagogue Church.
Eyewitness accounts reported that shortly after the collapse, a military helicopter was seen hovering above the area, while a strong police presence was also observed at the scene of the collapse.
Confirming the incident to the media, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Friday Adeboayo, confirmed the recovery of 15 corpses. He added that rescue operations were on to evacuate injured persons.
