No fewer than 107 persons were arrested for various sanitation-related offences in Kano State during Saturday’s monthly sanitation exercise.
The News Agency of Nigeria gathered that the defaulters, who were arrested in the eight metropolitan local governments, paid a total sum of N362, 650 in fines after they were tried in 10 mobile courts.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, who doubles as the Chairman of the State Sanitation Committee, monitored the exercise in Kano.
He said more sanitation committees would be established in local councils in addition to the eight already established.
“We are sure that the local government sanitation committees that were recently set up will enable the exercise have a great impact in local governments,’’ he said.
The chairman added that more local committees would be set up soon as the eight in the metropolitan councils were inaugurated.
